Enable Snapping. Then Open the Snapping options menu and enable Keep Buttons in Dock, Snap to End, and Snap to Grid. Go to Settings, also at the bottom. Enable Grid, and set your Square Size to 1mm and the Grid Size to 200mm. Enable Dimensions also.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33825\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/vectary-RC-car-tutorial-002.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" data-wp-pid=\"33825\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Rotate the grid to see it from above. Then select the Extrude button, hold the shift key, and drag to pull the edge to the desired width.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33827\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/vectary-RC-car-tutorial-004.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" data-wp-pid=\"33827\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Select the line you created. You will see a semicircle and a set of arrows. This is Vectary\u2019s transformation tool, aka the gizmo. You can use the gizmo to move, scale, or rotate your selection.<\/p>\n<p>Move the green arrow on the gizmo to adjust the shape.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33828\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/vectary-RC-car-tutorial-005.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" data-wp-pid=\"33828\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now that you\u2019ve created a base, you can move to designing the cabin. Click on the <strong>+<\/strong> icon to create a new layer. Turn off Snap to Grid. Using Draw Lines, draw the outline of the car\u2019s cabin.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33829\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/vectary-RC-car-tutorial-006.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" data-wp-pid=\"33829\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Again, use the Extrude function to turn the outline into a face. Adjust the shape of outline by using the gizmo to move, scale, or rotate the face while switching between points, lines, and faces.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33830\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/vectary-RC-car-tutorial-007.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" data-wp-pid=\"33830\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You can also add faces to your model by holding the shift key while using the Extrude function and dragging the magenta arrow on the gizmo.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33831\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/vectary-RC-car-tutorial-008.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" data-wp-pid=\"33831\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Turn on Snap to End. Use Draw Lines to create as many more faces as you like.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33832\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/vectary-RC-car-tutorial-009.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" data-wp-pid=\"33832\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Select several points on the extruded faces and join them together with the Collapse button in the left toolbar.<\/p>\n<p>Make sure you select only the points that you want to join. If you select all the points and click Collapse, it will collapse the whole shape.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33833\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/vectary-RC-car-tutorial-010.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" data-wp-pid=\"33833\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Select Draw Lines and add in any missing faces. Using the Move arrows on the gizmo to adjust the shape.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33834\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/vectary-RC-car-tutorial-011.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" data-wp-pid=\"33834\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Select +Add Plugin at the bottom right of the screen to open My Plugins. Choose the Mirroring plugin. Select the layers and axis that you want to mirror. When you are satisfied with your shape, select Bake from the dropdown menu at the top right of the Mirroring 1 panel.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33835\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/vectary-RC-car-tutorial-012.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" data-wp-pid=\"33835\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Bake command creates a new layer. Hide the old layers. At bottom left, switch the render view to Shaded to see the geometry.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33836\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/vectary-RC-car-tutorial-013.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" data-wp-pid=\"33836\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Select the center line. Find Bevel in the left toolbar to create an additional faces. You can enlarge them with the cube on the gizmo.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33837\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/vectary-RC-car-tutorial-014.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" data-wp-pid=\"33837\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Select the new faces and bevel repeatedly inwards. More lines will create a more angular look after smoothing.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33838\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/vectary-RC-car-tutorial-015.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" data-wp-pid=\"33838\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Move the selected faces, then Select Delete Selection in the top toolbar.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33839\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/vectary-RC-car-tutorial-016.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" data-wp-pid=\"33839\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Repeat Bevel, Move, and Delete on both sides of the car.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33840\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/vectary-RC-car-tutorial-017.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" data-wp-pid=\"33840\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Use the Marquee tool at the top of the screen to select all the faces. Click on the white gizmo circle and switch the jog to Local. Extrude inward (by dragging the arrow while holding the shift key) to add thickness.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33841\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/vectary-RC-car-tutorial-018.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" data-wp-pid=\"33841\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Choose the Select Lines button, then use Marquee to select the whole object. Select Bevel to create more edges.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33842\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/vectary-RC-car-tutorial-019.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" data-wp-pid=\"33842\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the left toolbar, turn on Smoothing and use the Colorpicker to choose the desired shade. (Note: the color of your rendering has no bearing on the color of your 3D print.)<\/p>\n<p>Next, click +Add Plugin, and in My Plugins, select the Shapeways plugin and Check Geometry. We chose <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/materials\/strong-and-flexible-plastic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shapeways Strong and Flexible Plastic<\/a> from the materials dropdown because it is durable and relatively inexpensive; printed in white, the car cost about \u20ac39 (or $45).<\/p>\n<p>Once ready, click the Send to Shapeways button.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33843\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/vectary-RC-car-tutorial-020.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" data-wp-pid=\"33843\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Shapeways will send a confirmation link via email.
