If you’ve been following along on our Facebook page<\/a>, you’ll know that right now,\u00a099 AWD (All Wheel Driver racers) from 22 countries and 163 RWD (Rear Wheel Driver racers) from 28 countries are gathered\u00a0in The Netherlands for D1-10<\/a>, the World Championship of RC Car Drifting. Yep, that’s drifting with RC cars.<\/p>\n

For me, this is like glimpsing a whole new world. Hundreds of\u00a0people with a shared passion for\u00a0a sport I only recently learned about, all gathered in one place to crown the champions. So far, I’ve met not only folks who\u00a0drove\u00a0overnight from Norway, the Czech Republic, and Spain, but also people who flew in from as far away as South Africa, Japan, and New Zealand. I am in awe of their dedication to their craft \u2014 and their sport.\u00a0Sadly, today is my last day at the event (it ends June 18)\u00a0but I’m definitely planning to attend next year.<\/p>\n

D1-10<\/h3>\n

The D1-10 World Championship of RC Drifting sees\u00a0its 6th edition this year. Founders Michel and Claudia started this event as the European Open, but it\u00a0soon got a lot bigger than the RC Drift World Championship that was organized in the UK at that time. With the power of the internet, the\u00a0D1-10 championship grew\u00a0quickly,\u00a0and it’s now the<\/em>\u00a0yearly happening for RC Drift enthusiasts.<\/p>\n

Over\u00a0six days, all participants will compete in different classes and in a lead-and-chase battle<\/p><\/div>\n

Team Wreck It Sideways<\/h3>\n

Shapie and RC expert Tijs Lochbaum, along with fellow teammates from Team Wreck It Sideways<\/a> are participating as well. Since Tijs’ competition rounds aren’t happening until Thursday, his team is checking out other competition rounds and hanging out with the\u00a0international drivers.
