(Grisly, but a good thing.)<\/p>\n<h3>The Rocket&#8217;s Red Glare<\/h3>\n<p>Normally, 3D printed components wouldn&#8217;t be put to this kind of test, but scientists at MIT, ever true to their nerdy roots, decided to try it anyway. And it worked. As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2017\/04\/30\/mit-fires-3d-printed-plastic-rocket-motor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Engadget reported<\/a>, a 3D printed rocket motor was\u00a0tested and, while it won&#8217;t hold up for a round two, that doesn&#8217;t really matter, since most rockets are\u00a0used only once. One-way ticket to space on a 3D printed rocket? I&#8217;m game.<\/p>\n<p class=\"video-responsive\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sVezlVX0JRk\" width=\"100%\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>Glass Half Full<\/h3>\n<p>Scientists and academics out of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.llnl.gov\/news\/lab-breakthrough-3d-printing-glass\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory<\/a> have made a breakthrough that might change the way we use lasers and other optical devices. Their new 3D printing method improves on previous processes that couldn&#8217;t produce glass\u00a0at sufficiently high quality to be used optically. I&#8217;m imagining a pair of glasses perfectly contoured to my face, avoiding any blurry borders. Various space agencies, that&#8217;s who! <a href=\"https:\/\/3dprint.com\/173267\/3d-printed-bricks-sunlight-moon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">As 3DPrint.com reported<\/a>, European Space Agency scientists have now printed bricks from pure simulated lunar soil and concentrated sunlight \u2014 no binding agents, which even earthbound 3D printers generally rely on. They&#8217;re probably over the moon about it, too.<\/p>\n<h3>Print Me a Hand<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2017-04-27\/we-re-getting-closer-to-mass-production-of-bones-organs-and-implants\">Bloomberg provided a nice rundown<\/a> of the players in the hotter-than-hot 3D bioprinting space, and also gave us a big dose of hope about one day replacing bones, limbs, and various organs with their magic machines. Now, if we can just get this whole operation onto the <em>Enterprise<\/em>, we&#8217;ll really be boldly going where no one, outside of sci-fi, has gone before.
