Learn more about 3D selfies in our first <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/archives\/27494-scanning-stories-3d-selfies-are-all-around-you-and-theyre-amazing.html\" target=\"_blank\">Scanning Stories <em>post<\/em><\/a><em>, and read on below for more tips and tricks to help you make the most of 3D scanning.<\/em><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">As 3D selfies get ever more popular, we\u2019re excited to have the opportunity to use a variety of scanning tools, from top-of-the-line scanning booths to handheld tablet-based software.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">At Eindhoven\u2019s Dutch Design Week (DDW) in October, we were lucky enough to present the amazing 3D Scan Lounge from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.scanlounge.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Scanologics<\/a> and offer members of the public a chance to have their 3D scans taken.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"096.JPG\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/gPYDdHutyYdDUoDQM2kkZXHQaa8iplpo1css6rMIPOVucRuZkG113e7fUCN3YK9DysveInVWbRQL_n6s8kB1lngAsfEjSwXu_lQsgaysGrOi5l6jcIcIY_FashcKy_qAyFtJci8K\" width=\"281\" height=\"211\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"L_booth2.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/iJDE-jO_MSJPeS_dbUQrAMR102nhD-hdCFdRKfTawaO2G2WX45TGfaBvABosoFJP5r2zDGXaOM-NBNqAk1_9mtlMB2qwBwbHxcYOAZZPnWXaYZzSDcCbYFGN-Y2WUhvBqFuV7oFw\" width=\"258\" height=\"212\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We 3D scanned lots of people during DDW: young and old, parents with their kids \u2014\u00a0together or separate \u2014\u00a0grandparents, and even a man with his dog. Everyone was super enthusiastic about the booth. Plus, taking a 3D scan within a split second gave some the opportunity to experiment with different poses.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"L_booth1.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/iIYRb3DQGXa4wFClvdmJ4IUnTG1gDM4IE9o3VB7gDLaGlsoCQT9s1hQdcv6yiIqaw6uxUCfBsNgpJfQfvQl183HCvs33RYTY5L4_ceSMYaJnPJV0CphntGDXBlC-QuZUoqPLGpv7\" width=\"145\" height=\"194\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"L_booth1a.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/gkT5D2S4Ke7i09s3mbmj9408KgoZSdBF6LXS3bZtNtSXCbbwgcS2wb9983UJ7ebfB1AvBZiShLrYszhsbL3D1B_dnjdJS9F05JYsUCgV8fV3XUcVZDgqvlMt44gAn-mVOc1-uVUY\" width=\"463\" height=\"195\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">The scanbooth is a portable, full body, <\/span><a style=\"font-size: 1rem;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Photogrammetry\" target=\"_blank\">photogrammetry<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\"> 3D scanning solution. That means that in one second, hundreds of 2D pictures are taken that will be processed into a printable 3D selfie. The main differences between a 3D scan made with a scanbooth and those made with a handheld scanner like the <\/span><a style=\"font-size: 1rem;\" href=\"http:\/\/skanect.occipital.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Skanect<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\"> are speed and quality. Taking a 3D scan in a scanbooth only takes a few seconds, whereas handheld scanners will take about a minute.
