Our designer spotlight this week is highlighting the very talented\u00a0Kasia Wisniewski, designer behind Collected Edition<\/a>. Her shop has some incredible designs ranging from jewelry and hair pieces to men’s accessories. The stand-out pieces capture specific moments in nature, rather than perfect interpretations. Different materials allow for different looks, but Kasia has clearly figured them out. Learn more about her inspiration and process below!<\/p>\n

Tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? Where are you located?<\/em>
\nI’m an apparel and accessories designer based in Brooklyn. After attending Pratt Institute and receiving a BFA in fashion design, I worked in luxury womenswear for Vera Wang, J. Mendel, and others for several years. I’m now focused on building the jewelry and accessories divisions of my brand, Collected Edition.<\/p>\n

What’s the story behind your designs? What inspires you?<\/em>
\nMy work is unabashedly feminine and romantic- I love turning the traditional visual language of 3D modeling on its head and creating pieces that are, essentially, handmade in their spirit. I model all the components separately, and then painstakingly arrange them into blooms, crowns, and other jewelry. For this collection, my greatest inspiration is the ephemeral quality of flowers. A daisy taking in the last gasp of summer, or a ribbon swept up in the wind- these are the driving forces in my designs. I’m less interested in creating the “perfect” flower than I am in crystallizing a fleeting moment.<\/p>\n

What brought you to 3D printing with Shapeways?<\/em>
\nMy husband has been using Shapeways for years for both business and personal projects. When I started experimenting with 3D design myself, Shapeways was a natural fit. Because I design so much in metal, I love that all aspects of the process- from wax model to final polishing- can be handled in a single place.<\/p>\n
