This week we are excited to highlight the lovely German duo, Agathe Schmid-Koenig and Bettina Meyer. Their shop, ringdesigner<\/a>, is a lovely mix of jewelry design mixed with simple industrial design, and try to find basic forms to express an idea. Thanks to 3D printing, their ideas can be realized and shared with the world!<\/p>\n

Tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? Where are you located?<\/em>
\nWe met at the Fachhochschule f\u00fcr Gestaltung in Schw\u00e4bisch Gm\u00fcnd, Germany, where Bettina studied jewelry design and Agathe industrial design. After several years of professional practice in different towns we met again at International Design Center of Berlin in 2000 and have been in contact since. We are both interested in the new technology of 3D printing, and we started our jewelry project in 2014. Bettina is running her own jewelry gallery in Berlin, and Agathe’s office is near Heidelberg.<\/p>\n

What’s the story behind your designs? What inspires you?<\/em>
\nFascinated by the new technological production capabilities and having experienced the limitation of crafting by hand, we came together to develop our first three-dimensional printable collection. We are old fashioned enough to try to work within the tradition of modernity. To find the simpliest form to express an idea is our motto.
\nOur first collection is inspired by classical jewelry designs like simple chains or solitaire rings. The design of our bracelets and rings is based on a renaissance collar.<\/p>\n

What brought you to 3D printing with Shapeways?<\/em>
\nIn search for possibility of production, Agathe found Shapeways, which helps a lot to learn the rules of printability.<\/p>\n
