Enter<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> <\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/1452620607\/botiful-telepresence-robot-for-android\"><span class=\"il\">Botiful<\/span><\/a>, a telepresence robot for consumers designed by Clair Delaunay who used Shapeways 3D Printing for her prototypes. She&#8217;s already raised over $62k on <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/\">Kickstarter<\/a> thus far and has racked up some support by others who are hoping for more natural remote conversations, including <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2012\/07\/25\/botiful-is-the-telepresence-robot-weve-all-been-waiting-for\/\">TechCrunch<\/a> and Skype&#8217;s former Chief Architect Ahti Heinla. <\/p>\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/1452620607\/botiful-telepresence-robot-for-android\/widget\/video.html\"> <\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>With Skype as a simple interface, the telepresence platform for Android<br \/>\nphones roams around and lets you be remotely present from anywhere in the world. Botiful can enable Skype video calls, baby monitoring, and even entertaining your pets&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><span>Claire used 3D Printing with Shapeways for some of her prototyping and<br \/>\n functional designs, from creating the robot&#8217;s appearance to testing how she could<br \/>\n mount the motors, sensors,<br \/>\nelectronic board, and battery. She also used 3D Printing with Shapeways to&nbsp;design an<br \/>\nefficient mechanism for the tilting head (she 3D printed the gears).&nbsp; <br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Claire<span> explained, &#8220;It really helped me to iterate quickly toward my final design.&#8221;<\/span> <\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>For the final product, she plans to use injection molding. She&#8217;s also considering offering &#8220;<span>customization services around <span class=\"il\">Botiful<\/span><br \/>\n to let users add new sensors or actuators suiting their needs.
