This father and daughter duo have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/mydesign?user_id=5749\">uploaded quite a few models to our site<\/a>. Rob has been a great community member, developing his handy<a href=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/model\/5721\/test_print_piece.html\"> test piece models so that everyone can order easy cheap 3D printed parts to see the differences in the materials<\/a> for example. Incara in <a class=\"serendipity_image_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/us1.jpg\"><!-- s9ymdb:266 --><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"110\" height=\"77\" style=\"border: 0px none ; float: right; padding-left: 5px; padding-right: 5px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/us1-150x150.jpg\"><\/a>her own right is notable for being our youngest Shapeways member at 10 years old. Her model, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/model\/4574\/incaras_first_character_.html\">Incaras first character<\/a> is adorable and she modeled it herself! You <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/hisdesign?user_id=5749\">can check out Rob and Incara&#8217;s great models here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><style type=\"text\/css\">\n\t<!--\n\t\t@page { size: 8.5in 11in; margin: 0.79in }\n\t\tP { margin-bottom: 0.08in }\n\t-->\n\t<\/style>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\"><b>So tell us a bit more about<br \/>\nyourselves?<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\">We are Rob and Incara from Sydney<br \/>\nAustralia. We&rsquo;ve got a very creative little family here with all of<br \/>\nus having our own styles and forms of expression. I&rsquo;m 37, Incara is<br \/>\n10 and has a sister named Aurielle who is 12. We&rsquo;re very interested<br \/>\nin toy design and production at the moment and are planning to get<br \/>\nserious about it in the next year or so.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\">\n<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\"><b>So how long have the two of you<br \/>\nbeen 3D modeling?<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\">Rob: about 10 yrs, I started in FormZ,<br \/>\nmoved to Alias Auto Studio for industrial design and jumped from<br \/>\nthere <a class=\"serendipity_image_link\" href=\"\/blog\/uploads\/desktoys.jpg\"><\/a><a class=\"serendipity_image_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/foot3.jpg\"><!-- s9ymdb:263 --><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"110\" height=\"74\" style=\"border: 0px none ; float: right; padding-left: 5px; padding-right: 5px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/foot3-150x150.jpg\"><\/a><!-- s9ymdb:262 --><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"110\" height=\"82\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/desktoys1-150x150.jpg\" style=\"border: 0px none ; float: right; padding-left: 5px; padding-right: 5px;\">into Maya, 3ds Max and Zbrush and have been character pipeline<br \/>\nfocused since<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\">Incara: I started when I was about 7, I<br \/>\nwas animating stuff in Maya but I only really started to get serious<br \/>\nabout making cool characters when I saw that I could have my model<br \/>\nmade into a toy<font face=\"Wingdings\">&#61514;<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\"><b>Where did Incara learn<br \/>\nmodeling\/3d design from?<\/b><a class=\"serendipity_image_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/incdesk1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"110\" height=\"76\" style=\"border: 0px none ; float: right; padding-left: 5px; padding-right: 5px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/incdesk1-150x150.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\">Incara and Aurielle both share the<br \/>\noffice I work in and have seen me working in 3d (I freelance from<br \/>\nhome) <a class=\"serendipity_image_link\" href=\"\/blog\/uploads\/incdesk.jpg\"><!-- s9ymdb:265 --><\/a>most of their lives. They are both interested in digital art<br \/>\nand I try my best to help them move in which ever creative directions<br \/>\nthey want to go. Incara is pretty good with 3ds Max as well as being<br \/>\na bit of a zbrush ninja.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\">Incara drew these characters a few<br \/>\nweeks ago with the intention of modeling them and they&rsquo;d been<br \/>\nsitting on my desk since&hellip; She&rsquo;s currently developing a portfolio<br \/>\nbecause she plans to apply for a specialized art and design high<br \/>\nschool. I asked her if she&rsquo;d like to have her characters made into<br \/>\na toy, showed her the shapeways website and her eyes lit up. &lsquo;Dad,<br \/>\ncan I work on my characters now&rsquo; &hellip; &lsquo;Dad, can I work on my<br \/>\ncharacters now&rsquo; &hellip; &lsquo;Dad, can I work on my characters now&rsquo;<br \/>\nfollowed constantly until the model was finished<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\"><b>Do you two design together?<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\">We paint, draw, sculpt and generally<br \/>\nmake loads of mess together here&hellip; Myself, Incara and Aurielle have<br \/>\ndesigned and created characters and produced short animations<br \/>\ntogether since they were 5 and 7 years old<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\"><b>Why do you use 3Ds Max?<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\">We use 3ds max because it&rsquo;s pretty<br \/>\neasy to work with, I spent 8 years with Maya and while it&rsquo;s a<br \/>\nstunningly elegant piece of digital engineering it&rsquo;s not really kid<br \/>\nfriendly. My girls like the simplicity of Maxs modeling toolset but<br \/>\nreally the future is Zbrush. We&rsquo;ve been working in Zbrush here<br \/>\nsince about 2004. Both my girls enjoy the interface and opportunities<br \/>\nit offers them. Incara says Zbrush is like working with clay but you<br \/>\ncan use cool special effects.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\"><b>What was the most difficult<br \/>\nthing about making the character?<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\"><a class=\"serendipity_image_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/head1.jpg\"><!-- s9ymdb:264 --><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"110\" height=\"74\" style=\"border: 0px none ; float: right; padding-left: 5px; padding-right: 5px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/head1-150x150.jpg\"><\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\">Lots! Inc says the most hardest thing<br \/>\nwas almost everything!.. Incara made the hands 3 times before she was<br \/>\nhappy with them. She also says the teeth were pretty tricky to get<br \/>\nright inside the mouth.
