{"id":115,"date":"2008-10-20T20:29:58","date_gmt":"2008-10-20T20:29:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/archives\/115-shapeways-dutch-design-week.html"},"modified":"2022-09-23T09:53:54","modified_gmt":"2022-09-23T13:53:54","slug":"shapeways-dutch-design-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/shapeways-dutch-design-week","title":{"rendered":"Shapeways Dutch Design Week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As you might know Shapeways currently has an exhibit at Dutch Design Week. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/stand1.jpg\" class=\"serendipity_image_link\"><!-- s9ymdb:220 --><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"73\" width=\"110\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/stand1-150x150.jpg\" style=\"border: 0px none ; float: right; padding-left: 5px; padding-right: 5px;\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re a part of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.virtualmaking.com\/\">Virtual Making<\/a>, a showcase of the possibilities of rapid manufacturing.TNO a dutch research institute that does a lot of research and consulting in 3d printing is one of our partners. Another partner is Free Form Fab, an initiative to create a fab lab in the cities of Eindhoven and Tilburg.<\/p>\n<p>A fab lab is a place where people can come to in order to use machinery such as a lasercutters, CNC machines, milling machines and 3d printers to make their own inventions, creations and products(something that we definately are excited about at Shapeways!).<\/p>\n<p>Yet another partner is Design Solutions, a<a href=\"http:\/\/www.solidworks.com\/\"> Solidworks<\/a> re-seller. Solidworks by the way is a great 3d design package that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/blog\/archives\/96-First-community-tutorial-live,-from-Solidworks-to-Shapeways.html\">works well with Shapeways<\/a>. Our other partners are the designers: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wouterscheublin.com\/\">Wouter Scheublin<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.designdrift.nl\/\">Design Drift<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.studiothol.nl\/\">Studio Thol<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kocxontwerpen.nl\/\">Kocx<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pelidesign.com\/\">Peli Design<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The virtual making stand is made up of large styrofoam blocks and houses a 3d printer, a lot of awesome designs and a bank of computers where lectures and workshops are given. 25,000 people came to Dutch Design Week last year and we&#8217;re enjoying talking to all the visitors this year.<\/p>\n<p>It is of course hard man a stand for a week for us but when talking to all the designers, students and other visitors out there it is definately worthwhile. We&#8217;ve really found that a lot of people love the idea of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/creator\">Creator<\/a> and hope to entice some very talented designers to come to Shapeways.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A lot of people are amazed at how our Dutch Design Week contest winner Peter Hermans&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/model\/5654\/ddw_punnik2_0_waistband.html\">Punnik 2.0 Waistband<\/a> feels so organic and fabric-like. People also like a last minute adition to our stand, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/model\/5603\/headspace_bowl_ddw.html\">HeadSpace bowl.<\/a> This design by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/mydesign?user_id=924\">Bryan Vaccaro<\/a> was quite the challenge to print but the face within a bowl is arresting.
