The Magic Shop

Designs by Magic

The Magic Shop offers a wide range of original dice, some geometrical jewelry and a few strange objects.

The dice are from different families like the Average Dice where you must sum the numbers appearing on the top face, the Truncated Sphere Dice, intersection of a polyhedron with a sphere and some other original creations.

The jewelry includes Double Marble Pendant, Dod Earrings and Dod Pendants, Reversible Bracelets as well as some unusual rings.
Finally, some objects are difficult to classify, for example the Hexbox, the Cup Holder or the MegaWireSphere.

Sphere Dice Set

The Sphere Dice are solid dice obtained by intersecting a regular polyhedron and a sphere.
They are "as fair as possible": the shape is fair but, as the numbering remove some material, there could be a little bias (but probably not more than commercial dice).
Here you have all the 7 Sphere Dice in one set:
 - D4 Sphere
 - D6 Sphere
 - D8 Sphere
 - D10 Sphere
 - D% Sphere
 - D12 Sphere
 - D20 Sphere
For dice collectors and RPG players.

Get all the dice from D3 to D20 plus the D% and D24 by gathering:
- the Sphere Dice Set
- the DCC Expansion Pack
- the Odd Spherical Dice Set
- the D18

D4 Shell

It's a Truncated Sphere D4 without faces!
The idea of keeping only the round part of a truncated sphere die when the numbers are located on vertices or edges is from Clsn (check his D9 for instance).
The thickness is 2 mm. Since it does not contain a lot of material, this die is quite affordable.

All the D4:
  - Truncated Sphere D4
 - Concave D4
 - D4 Shell

D4 Cage

This die is a wireframed tetrahedron that contains an hollow octahedron where the numbers are located.
In this way, it is easy to read the result of this die since it is the number on the top face of the internal octahedron.
Because it contains a small amount of material, this die is also quite affordable (try it in metal).

Alternative Truncated Sphere D8

This is another solution for the Truncated Sphere D8, different from the one based on a regular octahedron.

This die is inspired by the repulsion force polyhedra. In fact, the underlying polyhedron (not rounded) is a trapezohedron. It looks like the shape that can be obtained through this technique with 8 points repulsing each others.
But in this case, I calculated the positions of those points to have a maximal radius for the circles resulting from the intersection of this underlying polyhedron with a sphere. The result is a truncated sphere with 8 circular faces of same radius.

This die is made of a shell of 1.5mm that contains support material to make it heavier. The engraved numbers have a 0.75 mm depth.

D10 with a 4-fold symmetry.

I did this one before knowing about the repulsion force polyhedra, although the shape is the one of the typical result you can obtain through this technique with 10 points : the dual polyhedron has 2 squares and 8 irregular pentagons. I calculated the positions of those points to have a maximal radius for the circles resulting from the intersection of this dual polyhedron with a sphere. The result is a truncated sphere with 10 circular faces of same radius.
It is numbered from 0 to 9. Only 2 faces are opposite one to the other and can hold numbers. The others have edges as opposite, thus the numbers on 8 edges.

This die has an approximate diameter of 24mm and is made of a shell of 1.5mm that contains support material to make it heavier. The engraved numbers have a 0.7 mm depth.

More informations in this post.

The current version has deeper numbers compared to the ones in the pictures (0.7 instead of 0.5 mm).

A new shape for the Average Die that looks like a molecule.
To find the result of this die, you have to make the average of the four numbers pointing upward. For instance, 8 + 10 + 1 + 1 = 20, thus the result is 20/4 = 5. The positions of the results (from 1 to 6) match those of a standard D6.

This is another member of the Average Dice family.
You have to make the average of 3 faces of the inner cube (sharing a common vertex pointing upside) to find the result of the D8.
For instance, in the image, as 1+7+13=21 and 21/3=7 the result would be 7.

This is another member of the Average Dice family.
No frame needed this time.
You have to make the average of the 3 visible faces of the tetrahedron to find the result of this D4.
For instance, if those faces are numbered 1, 7 and -2, as 1+7-2=6 and 6/3=2, the result would be 2.

Color Rounded D6.

This is a color die. You can now customize the image... I used different colors for the faces in the first example so that you can understand how the texture is mapped, but I recommend a single color for the background like in the two last examples. See this post for more information.

Double D6

This is a compound of a nearly regular D6 and of a sum-D6. As the sum-D6 that composes the shell gives results from 0 to 5, the core is numbered from 2 to 7.
As a consequence, when you roll this double die, you got the same results as summing the results of two regular D6. But in a very original way!
For instance, in the rendering, the upper face of the core show 3 pips and the upper part of the shell, around this face, shows 2 extra pips. Thus, the result is 3+1+1 that is 5.

SUCESSFULLY PRINTED in White Strong and Flexible.
Not printable in Metal, sorry (movable parts).

Sorry, I am currently travelling. No customisation is possible until April...

This is Rounded D6 Die of 20 mm (it is bigger than regular dice that are generally 16 or 18 mm).
It is hollowed (2mm shell) but still contain the "support material", keeping it relatively heavy.

Opposite faces sum to 7 (well, except for the blank die). You can choose between a blank die, two numerical dice (standard and roman numbers) and two dice with pips (regular arrangement or arranged in circles).

A video tutorial explains how to do them with 3DS Max. You can also check this post.

To buy all the six versions with a discount, check the All round D6 page.

The faces have bars that divide them in a certain number of holes.
To get the result of this die, just count the number of holes between the bars on the upper face.

Note that, due to its structure, this die is far from being fair (1 is more likely than 6).
