Aotrs Shipyards

Designs by AotrsCommander

Aotrs Shipyards models are designed primarily for miniature wargames.

All of the models large enough to physically accomodate it have a 3.4mm diameter hole, which is sufficient to fit in a typical plastic flying base/flight stand. Models too small for this have instead a flattened area, suitable for gluing to a stand, if necessary (e.g. particularly in the case of the Stone Portal Fleet).

On some smaller vessels, the model will be available as a single ship or in a pack of 3-4 models. These packs are optimised for Strong White Flexible and to reduce the cost per ship where you are likely to want to have multiple ships. The single models are there just in case you only want to fill out the odd ship in your fleet! Note that on very small models (like corvettes or scoupships), it sometimes isn't worth doing this as you only start to save any costs for 10-12 models per pack (e.g. Stone Portal Corvettes), which is a bit too many.

MATERIALS: UPDATE 29/01/2010

The models, many of which are on the minimum wall thickness, are restricted to either Strong White Flexible (and it's coloured permutations) or detail. Models printable in detial can be printed in SWF, but models that are designated as SWF are generally not suited to detail material. I've put the hard-coded restrictions in, because I don't at this point, have the money to prototype everything and I'd rather restrict the material than have people try and print things things that won't work. (As has happened once already.) If in doubt, I've erred on the side of caution.
The model will have a materials section in the description section that gives the suggested (or only) material, which is what the prototypes have been printed in (optimised for lowest cost, as we Aotrs are a tight crowd...!) This will be either Strong White Flexible or [x] detail. The designs will be optimised for these materials.

Strong White Flexible is self-explanatory.

[x] detail refers to any of the detail materials (White, Black or Transparent). Transparent is recommended, since the models are designed to be painted. (We have found a cheap acrylic spray primer and then standard acrylic model paints produces pefectly good results.)

RANGES: All ships of the same fleet in a range (or design company) are prefixed with a code to allow easy searching when organised by title. In addition, each fleet range has it's own shop section.Current fleet ranges:

Aotrs: Army Of The Red Spear vessels. Primarily supplementary vessels for the existing (mainly-scratch built) Aotrs fleet.

ASF: Alpha Strike Force. A high tech fleet.
(Many of whom's ship designs have been lurking around for decades!)

BDSC: BD Starship Corporation. A small starship manufacturer.

GDH: General Designs Hulls. The most prevalent starship manufacturer  in the galaxy, GDH starships are available on the open market and are frequently refitted by the end user. They have several series of ships, based on similar hull shapes.

GDAC: General Designs Auxillary Craft. A subsidiary of GDH who manufacture ancillary craft like shuttles and fighters.

SP: Stone Portal Fleet. A race of  mysterious ancient beings whose vessels derive their power from superspace portals. They are generally slow but tough.

SSA: Saturn Syndicate Ascendancy. A breakaway human faction that evolved from a series of megacorporations. (The SSA is an attempt to capture a more "atomic sci-fi" feel, akin to that in the works of Stewart Cowley's TTA series of books in particular.)

VA: Vivrathk Aggression. A race of highly vicious combatants.

XGA: Extra-Galactic Aliens: Little is known of these aliens, except that they come from a galactic cluster almost the opposite side of the universe.

MG: Manouvre Group models: Armoured combat vehicles range in 1/72 and 1/144 20th century (plus), featuring sci-fi and models otherwise difficult to obtain in other forms (e.g. the dirtbikes).

Jalyrkeion Hierarchy

The 33RLG-9 Swebayen Command Vehicle is one of the older designs in the Jalkyrkion Hierarchy Army, and has been refitted several times. As a designated command vehicle, it is not a main combat unit, and so does not share the usual Jalyrkieon vehicle’s streamlining, being essentially an armoured box. But, even so, it capable of making a fair turn of speed, and has the typical booster system of all Jalyrkeion vehicles.

The Swebayen’s primary job is local command and control, for which it is well equipped with good sensor and communications arrays, and a solid ECM suite. It has an extensible sensor mast, giving it a safe way to aquire it’s own sensor locks for both itself (and it’s primary weapons of twin TOO-1 Tonsha Missile Launchers) and it’s subordinate vehicles.

For secondary weapons, it has two side-mounted, retractible phased-plasma cannons for close defense, and two phased-plasma point defence arrays for anti-missile and anti-infantry defense.

It is, however, not heavily armoured, and so generally sits in a safe location at the perimetre of the engagement location.

Jalyrkeion Hierarchy

The 41RKR Scovocsper VTOL attack fighter is a bleeding-edge new VTOL craft, modelled directly from the fighters of the Rixjaani Obonos (Starfleet, lit. vessels (i.e. fleet) of the sky-fighting), and is closer to a starfighter than a more conventional VTOL. Top-of-the-line gravitonic drives combined with effective-mass reduction grids allow the Scovocsper to mount armour heavier than some MBTs, as well as considerable armament.

The Scovocsper has ventral twin multibarrel phased-plasma cannons, an ungraded and more compact version of the turret used by the 21RLB-6 Appila.

The wing struts mount TOO-1 Tonsha Missile Launchers, three each side, with three missiles each, for a total of eighteen warheads. Reloading is quick and simplified, as the missiles are mounted in magazines, and accessed through the heavily-armoured ventral hatches. At a suitable loading base, the Scovocsper simple flies to the top of the building, drops it’s expended magazines into a hatch, and then hovers forward to a second hatch, where pre-loaded magazines are raised up to lock in. The whole process is automated, and assisted by tractor beams on the roof of the facility, enabling the Scovocsper to reload in less than a minute; pilot endurance is the major factor to the number of sorties one can conduct.

The Scovocsper also mounts a much larger phased plasma cannon battery, in the form of the wing strut-tip cannons, giving it extremely good range and firepower, at the expense of firearc.

Finally, it has two light phased-plasma point-defence arrays, instead of the slower and more cumbersome graviton crushers.

All this power comes as an expense however. The Scovocsper is unable to mount shield generators, due to the amount of power it expends on weapons and propulsion, despite being just above the minimum size. While this was a consideration, the Hierarchy command decided that given its sphere of operations would mostly consist of nap-of-earth combat that the emphasis should be placed of offense, and rely on terrain and manoeuvrability for defences. As a result, despite being closer to a fighter than a VTOL gunship, it is not suited to dealing with true fighters.

Jalyrkeion Hierarchy

The 21RLB Appila Attack Rover has been a staple of the Jalyrkieon military for a long time. It is essentially an upgraded modification of the earlier 21RUI Wilarit rover, a design itself nearly a hundred years old at the time of its replacement. The Appila, which has been refitted several times (the most modern generation being the 21RLB-6 version, forms the backbone of the Hierarchy army, using mobility and weight of numbers on a cheap, sturdy and easily maintained hull, rivalling the ESU’s T-132.

Technically a light tank, the current Appila is modestly armoured, and fitted with one of two turrets. The first is has twin, multibarrel phased-plasma cannons, which between those of the Tevqolath and the Shyroen on power. This gives it a good punch for dealing with shielded targets and excellent range, though the penetration is not spectacular. The second turret is a series of five linked semi-guided rocket pods with 105 warheads. This gives the Appila a better anti-heavy-armour capability, at the expense of lesser range, combat endurance and anti-infantry ability. Both turrets are high-track and capable of dealing with anti-air craft or urban area operations. The Appila also mounts a graviton crusher for additional point-defence.

Jalyrkeion Hierarchy

The 38RTR-3 Okam Armour Personnel Carrier, named after a type of aquatic predator on Plenadi, the Jalyrkieon homeworld is the standard Jalyrkieon APC. It is slightly more than a battle-taxi, but is not a full IFV. It is fast and very agile, and, in concert with it’s boosters, capable of driving even over water for distances of up to two miles. It is moderatley armoured for a vehilce of it’s size, comparible with most heavier IFVs.

Due to the larger volume of the Jalyrkion form, an Okam only carries one squad of four Jalyrkieons, and are typically found operating in groups of three.

It is armed with a shrapnel cannon, which fires a munition that explodes into a cluster of very highly accelerated, superheated fragments in the proximity of enemy targets. The weapon has an extremely good range and density of fire, though it’s penetration is only moderate. Early models also carried a coaxual light support weapon mount, either a plasmatic repeater cannon or a phased-plasma gun. However, as the main gun was generally preferrable in almost all circumstances they would be used, those weapon rarely saw usage. They were later removed in later variants, and replaced with a point defense graviton crusher, to provide some improved missile defence.

Jalyrkeion Hierarchy

The 31RTD Shyroen Main Battle Tank is a large and powerful vehicle. While not as fast as the Tevqolath it supplements, it is still much quicker than most non-grav MBTs. The Shyroen’s role is primarily anti-heavy armour, a purpose served by the two huge energy torpedo cannons mounted on the turret. These weapons are not “torpedoes” in the conventional sense; they are energy weapons that use a similar technology to the phased-plasma batteries, though in this case the energies are much more unstable, and the containment is via imparted force-field, rather than electromagnetism. Energy torpedoes require a large amount of energy to charge to fire, and the containment fields give them only average range. Within that range, however, the damage they can inflict is impressive. Their rate of fire is, perforce, slow; though they can fire a lesser charge as faster speeds, the power is dispropotionally weaker. Energy torpedoes emit light in the green spectra the more powerful they become, and blue-shifting as they lose power and coherance. The smaller charges thus tend to be more typically a turqoise colour on firing.

As with the Tevqolath, the Shyroen’s two launchers are geared for asyncronous fire, circumventing somewhat the problem of low-rate of fire.

However, energy torpedoes perform poorly against shields, so the Shyroen also mounts two multibarrel phased-plasma cannons. These weapons, mounted on sponsons, also have a much greater elevation, and provided some much-needed shield-stripping ability. A single TVX-4 Rerif missile tube sits atop each gun, providing some short-range punch, though as these are not reloadable outside of an engineering bay, a one-shot one. Finally, the Shyroen has a graviton crusher array for point-defense.

The vehicle also has a side-mounted improved sensor array, giving it an excellent targeting system for making the most of it’s weapons. Typically, they are also equipped with a mine plough, since their hull shape is the most optimal for this purpose, and the lighter underside of Jalyrkeion vehicles due to the boosters present) makes them more vulnerable.

When dealing with ultra-heavy targets, such as a Cybertank Eradicator, Shyroens are often teamed with Tevqolaths, with the latter providing the fastest shield stripping, and the former providing the killing punch.

Strayvian Dominion Legion

Seething Scoria Attack Skimmer

The Seething Scoria Skimmer is the lightest Strayvian vehicle in common use. Effectively an armoured canopy covering a Strayvian powered infantry trooper attached to a grav-drive, it is comparatively light; though with shields and armour that still make it comparable to many light tanks significantly bigger.

While all Strayvian vehicles carry sensors, the Skimmer carries and improved array. It is armed with a small PD lazer cannon on a turret, and a more powerful fixed laser cannon underslung beneath the canopy. It is the fastest ground vehicle in the Dominion’s arsenal, and out of all the grav-vehicles, the best flier.

The pilot lies almost face-down in prone position in the canopy. Like all Strayvian vehicles, the interior of the canopy provides a 3D holographic array. In the Seething Scoria, the orientation of the array is such that “forward” is at the same down angle as the pilot’s vision in his prone position. The visual display, like all Strayvian systems, is maintained through a series of micro-sensors scattered across the hull under the armour, giving considerable redundancy. These devices are also linked to several small utility power cells (no larger than an old watch-battery), providing a separate back-up in the case of a generator failure, so that in such a case, while sensors are likely to be disabled, the pilot can still see. This is in addition to the auxiliary generator all Strayvian vehicles also carry.

Ash Abomination Lava Spite Scout AFV

The Lava Spite hull is technically classified as a scout vehicle, but in practise, it is closer to a lighter MBT of most other races, with the added advantage of size. A one-crew vehicle, the Ash Abomination variant is the most common, sporting an improved sensor array, strong shields for a vehicle of its size, and considerable firepower. In addition to the twin forward lazers, it mounts a powerful lazer cannon turret, with a coaxial PD lazer. The PD lazer has full elevation, but relies on the turret to provide lateral movement, which can degrade it’s use if the main gun is overriding it’s commands.

Atrocious Eruption Blistering Castigation Anti-Aircraft Artillery Tank

The Atrocious Eruption variant of the Blistering Castigation hull is primarily a company air-defence vehicle. It is, however, due to the advanced electronics, also used as a command vehicle for the local group commander.

On top of the Blistering Castigation hull’s two forward lazer cannons, it has a huge quad lazer cannon array, which is capable of inflicting devastating damage on armour, infantry and air-craft alike, though it’s sheer size precludes its use as point-defence under a couple of kilometres. The power drain of this enormous device means that the shield array of the Atrocious Eruption is less powerful than its MBT brother.

The vehicle’s secondary turret contains a smaller PD lazer, co-axially mounted on top of a rack of semi-guided missiles. The rack contains a total of 56 missiles. Anti-armour or area effect (anti-infantry) mode typically uses a spread of seven missiles. The missiles can be fired as unguided rockets, though without a sensor lock, they can only be used in area-effect mode on targets on a direct line of sight; indirect area-effect requires a sensor lock, as the unguided missiles do not ballistically fall except at their extreme range.

Strayvian Dominion Legion

Hell Blast Lava Spite Anti-Aircraft Artillery AFV

The Hell Blast variant of the Lava Spite hull is almost identical – unlike the Blistering Castigation hull modifications, the Lava Spite variants are typically confined to the type of turret mounted. (Indeed, it is possible to change the turret out of combat relatively quickly, as there are no other internal modifications to make.)

The Hell Blast turret is primarily local anti-air and anti-infantry. Aside from the ubiquitous forward lazers on the hull, it has two powerful lazer cannons, maximised for long range, at the expense of some power. These are capable of functioning as PD weapons if not actively engaging the enemy. The Hell Blast’s major punch comes from two Flaming Fist missiles mounted either side of the lazer cannons. These weapons are horrendously destructive, spelling doom for almost anything they hit. They create a sufficiently big blast that secondary targets close to the impact point are at risk. They are capable of demolishing even bunkers, and the only deficit is their penetration of shields is poor.

Strayvian Dominion Legion

Invidious Obsidian APC

The Invidious Obsidian APC is the standard personnel carrier for the Dominion Legion. It carries a single squad of seven Strayvians (in a somewhat cramped cabin). As heavily armoured from the front as most MBTs, and better shielded, it has a lazer cannon that some lighter tank would envy. Despite the secondary forward lazers, it has no dedicated PD turret, and thus must rely solely on the Strayvian’s typically advanced ECM for missile protection.

The infantry de-bus via a clamp-shell hatch at the back. This does exacerbate the flaw of all Strayvian vehicles – the comparatively poor rear armour.

The Invidious Obsidian also sports several reinforced firing ports, allowing the infantry inside to fire their weapons while still mounted.

They are typically deployed as a platoon of three with their infantry, with one APC’s commander acting as the platoon leader.

Sci-Soviets

The 29K22 Tunguska 2 Air-Aircraft Vehicle is the new company defence vehicle. It is armed with twin gatling cannons and two quad SA-19W multirole sensor lock missiles. These weapons are small, with only modest warheads, but are designed to overwhelm defences by firing a larger number of warheads. Unlike salvo rockets, the SA-19s are all guided, allowing maximum accuracy, even against high-mobility targets like Strayvian fighters or heavily PD-defended targets like Strayvian heavy vehicles. The Tunguska 2 has its own sensor array to assist with targeting.

All turrets in the sci-soviet range are interchangable.

Suggested material: SWF

Note: The 29K22 is based on the modern Tunguska AFV; the hull (aside from the grav units) is scale accurate, though the turret is fashioned very close, it is not strictly millimetrically accurate!

Incandescent Outrage Heavy Tank

The Incandescent Outrage is the heaviest vehicle in common usage. A heavy tank in all senses of the word, it combines enormous firepower with good mobility and excellent protection. Virtually impregnable while it’s shields are powered, the Incandescent Outrage’s armour is considerable.

It is armed with no less than four fixed-forward lazer cannons. The main turret holds an enormous lazer cannon, with a PD lazer turret sat atop that. However, the most notable feature are the two sponson turrets. Each one not only holds a powerful lazer cannon in its own right – as powerful as the main gun of the Magma’s Ire - but it’s own generator and back up, independent of the rest of the tank. This means, short of the total destruction of the hull, that the sponson turrets can continue to fire, even after the rest of the tank becomes inoperable. There are incidences of the main tank being disabled, but the victors being wiped out by the sponson turrets in their moment of triumph, and the tank being used as an impromptu fortification thereafter.

However, all this makes it a cumbersome flier when acting in VTOL mode, at best.
