the SOMA Cube Puzzle |
Ethereal Maze Puzzles are mazes that you solve by rolling a ball through an innovative new three dimensional lattice structure which forms the maze paths. The goal is to roll the ball through the Labyrinth Maze from the entrance to the exit. An additional challenge is to navigate the ball from the exit back to the entrance.The featured maze game puzzles are the original: “Zig Zag Zog” (easy), “Floating Labyrinth” (intermediate) and “Escher’s Playground” (advanced). Start out with one of these, or a pack of all tree. The next two models added in 2012 are “Twisted Symmetry”, “Minotaur’s Castle”. I have incorporated symmetrical designs on the faces of these mazes. I have also made these models larger in size and thicker so that it is easier to paint them if you like (photos of painted mazes are found on the product pages for these mazes). Try one or both of these new brain fun mazes after you have mastered the featured puzzles. They are both advanced difficulty, but one of these is a little easier than “Escher’s Playground” and one is more difficult. In my next maze design many of the rods making up the outer wall has been removed. To keep the ball contained in the maze it is held in a clear plastic case. This exposes the skeletal inner framework of the new "Bare Bones" maze. This also has rods added to impede your path and others removed to lead you astray. All this make for an expert level maze.
I have also been designing some assembly puzzles. The first is a new twist on the classic SOMA cube puzzle. This is called "SOMA's Revenge" and it is an interlocking assembly cube puzzle with sliding pieces. The new and unique challenge for this puzzle is to assemble the pieces into interlocking cube configurations. It also has hundreds of other challenges that involve assembling the pieces into various figures.

This pack includes two "Escher's Playground" mazes. Each maze includes it’s own ball.
Escher's Playground - Reminiscent of the upside-down staircase paintings by Escher, this 7x7x7 maze will soon have you forgetting which way is up and down. The dimensions of this maze are 40mm by 40mm by 40mm and the ball is 9mm in diameter.

Start by pushing the ball into the spring loaded entrance ( it looks
like a backwards “J”). Tip the maze in different directions to roll the
ball along the paths through the maze. Don’t worry, if you make a wrong
turn, the ball will not fall out of the maze. If the ball runs into a
dead-end you can just roll the ball back the opposite way and try
another path, that’s all part of this fun brain game. When you reach the
exit there is a spring loaded button to press to release the ball from
the maze. The exit is in a corner of the 3D maze, where you will find a
bar with the little button sticking out from the side of the maze.
Each maze game come with the ball attached by a little chain link cage for shipping. This needs to be cut off and cut open with scissors and the ball will fall out. Note that each larger size maze comes with a larger ball. The balls can quickly and easily be colored with a highlighter or marker. Let the ball dry for a minute after applying then roll between clean white paper to remove excess color so it does not rub off on the maze. Paint for plastic models can also be used. The orange, green and black balls in the pictures were colored with highlighters or markers. Coloring the ball makes it easier to track in the Labyrinth maze.

A pirate chest recently washed ashore containing a never-before-seen hand
carved puzzle. The carvings on the chest indicate that the puzzle is a 3D
maze map through the caves on Dragon Fang’s island where the vast treasure
from the pirate ship Black Lion is hidden. You open the chest only to find
that the main body of the maze looks eaten away to the “Bare Bones.”
Luckily, there is a clear case in the chest as well, and a small brightly
colored ball that will help guide you. The ball fits into the maze at the
round mouth of the cave maze in the corner of the cube. The maze then
slides into the clear case; it is a perfect fit. You shove the sturdy case
with its precious map into your pocket. The question is, can you solve the
mystery of this maze and find the treasure? The carvings on the chest show
that your goal is shown as another round ring with the remains of an “X”
along its border.
To get there, roll the ball along the bones of the maze to try to reach
the treasure. Your ball can travel up, down, fore and aft, port (left) and
starboard (right) to travel through the maze. The clear walls allow you to
easily see exactly where you are in the maze, and which directions can be
tried next, but getting there is harder than it looks. Argggh, there have
been plenty of “Bones” cleverly placed along the tunnels to trip up any
unwary pirates and keep them from reaching the treasure. These can lead
you astray or plunge you into a deep pit.
The “X Marks the Spot” where your treasure is found. If you reach the
treasure you are not done yet matey! You have to return safely back to the
mouth of the cave. Be wary though, there are new perils on the way back,
and many pirates have never found their way back out. The true brave of
heart can enter again to see if they can find the treasure again, this
time, faster!

of Six Medium Size BCW Maze Puzzle Display Cases for Bare Bones Mazes
Start by setting one of the “U” shaped halves of the clear case on a table
with the sides of the “U” facing up. Before putting the “Bare Bones” maze
in the case, orient it so the circular mouth of the cave (the one in the
corner) is on the bottom. Place the ball on the bottom of the “U” of the
case, such that when you next slide “Bare Bones” down into the case half,
the circular mouth of the maze goes over the ball. Next carefully slide
the top half of the case on. The photos and video above illustrate how
this is done. You are now ready to start solving this maze puzzle.
Many a pirate has been lost in the cave, but have no fear - you can slide
open the two halves of the case and the ball can easily be shaken out to
start solving the maze game over again.
You can easily color the ball to make it show up even better in the maze.
A quick and simple method is to use highlighter markers, or Sharpie
colored markers. Enamel spray paint for plastic models also works very
well. Spray paint was used to color the ball in the photos.
The clear case is very sturdy, so you can carry this maze puzzle around in
your pocket or your bag. When not being played, this unique new type of
maze can be displayed as a fascinating work of art. Set it on your desk or
shelf, everyone will be curious to know what it is and want to give it a
try.
This new maze design uses thicker rods for the maze. They are also rounded
off so the maze structure looks like a skeletal matrix of linked up bones.
