Lack of good mid-war alternatives forced French authorities to try to extend the lifetime of the Voisin 3 and 5 two-seat pushers. The 300hp Hispano-Suiza engine was desired, but shortages forced the Voisin 8 to use the 220hp Peugeot 8Aa instead. This larger and heavier engine necessitated a larger airframe. The Type 8's served from November 1916 through late 1917, when they were phased out in favor of Voisin 10's. This model reflects the variant armed with the Hotchkiss 37mm cannon, which was used for ground attack and escort duties. (The more standard machine-gun armed model is also available.)
The Voisin 8Ca2 comes in 1:144 and 1:285/6mm/1:288 scales. The 1:285 product uses a propeller disk instead of blades, since blades are hard to print at small scales. You can snap it off if you prefer.
DESIGNER NOTE:
Models at scales smaller than 1:144 may no longer be available. Shapeways discontinued the material for which they were designed, and the newer materials require that each and every model be adjusted to thicken surfaces like wings. If you are interested in a particular model in a small scale, please let me know and I will prioritize it higher in the queue.
