USS Harbinger

U.S.S. Harbinger (NCC-29976) Commissioned in 2338, the Harbinger patrolled the Klingon border for many years as a diplomatic vessel under the command of Captain Ichiro Takahashi, maintaining open dialogue with the Klingon vessels that patrolled on the opposite side of the border. After the Battle of Narendra III in 2344, the Harbinger was instrumental in transporting Federation and Klingon diplomats back and forth in an effort to solidify relations. This role continued for four years afterward. By 2348, the Federation-Cardassian War was underway, and the Harbinger was reassigned with a new crew complement to assist the planets along the Cardassian border. Captain Ruuvek led his crew to many victories by 2352, when the Harbinger disappeared somewhere in the Umoth system. The mystery concerning the Harbinger’s disappearance would remain unsolved until 2401, when the U.S.S. Opheon discovered a member of her crew and a flight recorder suspended in time near Andoria. The crew member, Lt. Gill Ambrose, claimed, and his flight recorder confirmed, that the Harbinger encountered a gravity well, which ensnared the ship. When the Harbinger was free of the gravity well, it had travelled into the distant past, to what was eventually calculated to be 4,533,122,743 B.C. Damaged from their encounter with the gravity well, the crew of the Harbinger was forced to seek out a habitable planet in an entirely unfamiliar galaxy. Earth was merely a collection of accretions four and a half billion years ago, and other known systems were also lifeless at the time. It took some time and a considerable amount of ingenuity to find a planet fromwhich the Harbinger crew could resupply. After several months on the planet that the crew had named Proterra, their temporary settlement was attacked by a strange race of aliens that seemingly dominated the galaxy. Captain Ruuvek attempted to fight off the aliens, but the Harbinger and the command crew were destroyed. Lt. Ambrose, a Communications Officer, compiled all of the back-up records from the Harbinger, took a small crew and departed on a shuttlecraft. Ensign DelVeccio, a science officer located a nearby spacial disturbance from which the aliens retreated. The spacial turbulence killed all of the passengers aboard the shuttlecraft save for Lt. Ambrose, who remained frozen in time until 2401, having witnessed the passing of time, unable to age or die for four and a half billion years.
