Product Description
The prototype for this N scale 26 foot boxcar was built by Ross Winans, probably for the Baltimore & Ohio, in the late 1830s to early 1840s. A sample was sent to the Württemberg State Railways in 1845 to form the basis of that road's early cars, and a drawing published in 1857 shows this design still in US service, with more conventional sliding doors. Comes with a one-piece body with separate roof. Equipped with live spring trucks (p/n T02) and two additional types from the era (attach with #0 screw or pins provided). End beams have link and pin pockets. Also provided are additional wrought iron link and pin couplers. Hole for the wrought iron coupler is correct for MT Z/Nn3 couplers, to be opened with a #63 drill if needed(this option may require some shimming or trimming of the trucks).
Spoked wheels are provided but are not recommended for lasting service on the layout. Use instead 33" wheelsets with .540" axles (MT low or new standard profile or similar FVM etc.)
This model has very fine detail so the preferred material is Frosted Ultra Detail.
Clean with warm soapy water or alcohol and soft brush before painting with acrylics. Use Bestine rubber cement remover if particularly greasy. Some areas may require scraping to remove waxy manufacturing residue, especially the interior.
Part Number R11.
