Designed by Paul Liaw — New York, NY, for Design Museum's Rapid Jewelry Design Competition
From the designer: "It was my intention to have a piece that would show a narrative like a long mural when rotated. I also wanted something that goes with most fashions. so the drama and details were contained. Lastly I wanted to make a design that could look good and be affordable as is, or augmented with gemsettings to bring it into high end market. For the design I set out to do an underwater scape, but I ended up simplifying it to a school of fish, waves, and a tuna chasing them down. I liked the idea of a school of fish because they form abstract shapes through their movement. As for the waves it was a fun challenge determining how to represent the crests and integrate them into the design."
