Drive north on I-5 from California to Oregon and you can't avoid seeing the 14,000-foot
Mt. Shasta, as it stands nearly two miles above the highway but only eight miles away.
This stratovolcano is the fifth highest peak in California and the second highest in
the Cascades. Unlike other Cascade volcanoes, Shasta contains a very prominent sister
cone, called Shastina, that shows up in detail in this model. The sides of the mountain
are covered in glaciers and lahars (pyroclastic mudflow), but the last significant
eruption was probably 200 years ago, and the USGS considers Shasta dormant.
This model contains the summit, Hotlum Cone, and Misery Hill, all of Shastina,
most of Whitney Glacier (the longest glacier in California), Thumb Rock, all of
Hidden Valley, Avalanche Gulch, most of Sargents Ridge and Casaval Ridge (two
popular climbing routes), Shastarama Point, and all the way south to Green Butte.
The larger models show incredible detail,
including crevasses in the glaciers, a ridged Red Banks, and more.

TinyMtn models are most affordable in the "Sandstone" and "White Strong and Flexible" materials. This model is in "Sandstone," which is a glued gypsum material. When you receive the model it will be ready for display, though it may smell funny and need some time to air out. "Sandstone" models are much more brittle than "White Strong and Flexible" models, but feel more like light stone. Do not soak it in water, though you can safely seal it with Polycrylic or a similar water-based clear spray sealant. Read more about this popular material here.
