Designed as a replacement for the geriatric Huard the C-101 epitomises all that is wrong with the aviation department of Canadian Car & Foundry. Intended as a fast, agile (heavy) fighter to patrol the Eastern Seaboard and Great Lakes there's little left of the original design intent apart from a significant range and a large crew, even the armament is unexceptional. The design's saving grace is that the 4 Wasp Junior engines (installed as tandem pairs) are ultra reliable and very economical. It has started to build a reputation as a long endurance patrol plane for policing remote areas.
In the service of Quebec the Hector is known as the Hussard (Hussar).
