This is a full set of parts to upgrade the turret of the old Italeri/Revell Leopard 1 kits – the 1A1A1-4 and 1A2. It can also be used while converting the 1A4 to a 1A3. You get a replacement MG skate ring with correct number/location of periscope heads, an interior ring with the bodies of the periscopes as seen through an open hatch, a set of hatch spring assemblies for the Loader’s hatch, and a hole-drilling template.
Shave off the incorrect kit periscope heads around the TC ring (but not the one standing out to front-left!), place the drill template with its lugs in the hatchway and the other lug in the hatch pivot hole, drill the four ends with a 1mm drill, and place the new ring in the holes! The exterior ring has a sprue across the opening for the hatch pivot that needs to be trimmed off and sanded flat.
The inner ring has no alignment pegs – just eyeball it based on the hatch-pivot pedestal and the periscope locations.
There are two different Loader’s hatch springs – “open” and “closed”. Start by shaving off the kit details for the mechanism, and add the spring of choice. (See pictures.)
These parts can be adapted to other brands of Leopard 1 kit. See my Shop for other combinations used on the Leo 1A4, 1A5, and separate items for those who don’t need the full set.
Tip – wash everything gently in warm soapy water and rinse before using. Sometimes parts still have a little oil or wax adhering that needs to be removed before paint will stick properly.
[General Shapeways disclaimer: I only design the parts – Shapeways does the printing. If you are not entirely satisfied with the print quality (they can sometimes ship sub-par prints - it happens!) then please contact Shapeways Customer Service directly to complain and ask for a reprint. They usually expect you to supply photos to prove the defects, before you do anything to the parts!]
