Product Description
There's many ways to crack an egg. My favorite method is “flat-cracking”, against a countertop or other hard surface. Sometimes, though, too much force means I lose one, and an egg glops onto the counter; gooey, messy, and important to clean thoroughly. So I started cracking against a small dish to catch any overshots, and that worked, but the plate wasn’t solid and stable like the countertop, and it was harder to crack eggs cleanly. So I designed the CrackBlock, and began printing prototypes in white PLA.

The first version had a raised cracking tower surrounded by a flat, rimmed dish to catch overshots; it worked to contain a runaway egg, but little else. Seeing how handy it was, though, to have the egg right there, ultimately led to making CrackBlock large enough to comfortably hold two eggs (in fact it will hold four…), and shaped for easy handling and pouring. I’ve designed a larger version for mixing but haven’t been able to prototype it due to printer size limitations.

But layer-based 3D-printed pieces are not food-safe. Even though I use this one regularly, and clean it immediately, ultimately I'll have to print another one. Now that Shapeways offers glazed porcelain, CrackBlock can finally be made available for sale...!

I added a Santoprene rubber base pad to my version. Because it was impossible to trace accurately around the undercut base on the CrackBlock, I made a tracing die to assure a clean, well-fitted pad. I'll send the STL file to anyone who requests it, unless I can arrange that here.
