This part is designed to a scale of 5/8" = 1'. This is the Baldwin Sand Box as it was originally delivered on Locomotive #23 to the Sandy River & Rangeley Lakes RR in 1913. This part is designed to function as a Hydrostatic Lubricator on a live steam locomotive. The inside is hollowed out and intended to be the oil reservoir. A hole in the center bottom of the dome would be drilled out for insertion of a oil discharge pipe routed through the boiler to the smoke box area where it connects with the main steam line to the cylinders. This part has been machined and tested for this purpose and operates as intended.
