The above pictures show the design of table "Asquare", of 6 intricately intertwined origami-like legs that fan out into a star shape, holding up a beveled glass tabletop. The table holds itself together only by its own tension.
The table is made out of 6 three dimensional squares of polyamide. Each square has a vertical wall thickness of 5 mm. to get maximum strenght. The horizontal walls are 4 mm. thick and the most flexible wall is 3 mm. thick. The design of Asquare is you might say somewhat paradoxic. The sqaures are all sculptured in the computer and digitally printed, but the actual end product has to be assembled by hand. For me this gives the table an extra charme, not to be completely digital. This also leaves possibilties for other combinations with the same squares.
The design is already available as a FULL SCALE PROTOTYPE, made out of 6 squares of 30x30 cm. (total size is 60x60x30 cm.)
With this design I wanted to create a larger volumetric object build from smaller components with the possibilties of Rapid Prototyping. This 3 dimensional (handmade) pattern forms a dynamic spectacle in your living as well.
