Product Description
London & North Western Railway 6 ton Refrigerator Van, diagram 46, built from 1884 to 1911.
Model is based on Earlestown drawings on pages 78 to 81 of C Northedge C (2011) “LNWR Wagons Vol 2” ISBN 978 1 905184 83 5 and accompanying photograph of no 66217. Some of these vans lasted into LMS days post 1923.
The model shown in the photo is an example printed in Smooth Fine Detail Plastic (formerly known as 'FUD'), but is an earlier version of this prioduct, with a roof and a separate floor unit. Note that the side detail is dead scale, not exaggerated such as found on some 3D models, so please paint very thinly for best results!
Builder needs to add plastic or brass roof, 0.45mm wire for handrails and horse hook, and brass ladder for each end. Drill holes at dimples if necessary. Also add small rectangles to the roof to represent ice hatches if required, they were removed later. Lamp irons could be made from FB strip, slots are provided. Floor is designed for MJT 00/EM/S4 W-iron units at 9’0” wheelbase. LNWR axleboxes and buffers need to be sourced and fitted to match photograph of chosen van. Thoroughly degrease all surfaces before painting.
Livery: LNWR = white body with grey and/or black. Letters black or possibly red.
