Motorola Droid Turbo - Qi Wireless Car Charge Dock

Your phone is the best navigation tool you can have in the car. The real time traffic of Waze and Google Maps is unmatched. If you are using this regularly you are putting your phone in a dock and plugging it in to charge a few times a day. This is tiresome and wear-and-tear on the USB port. The Motorola Droid Turbo has wireless charging so why not put that to use in the car?

This dock is so simple all you do is drop in the phone. That’s it, one hand, one step. One hand is actually too much you really just need two fingers max.

You will need a few other parts to make this work. The first is a PowerBot PB1020 Qi charger, pick a color to complement or accent your dock. Finally you will need an Arkon Slim-Tab Adapter  which slots into the back and then lets you snap this only any 17mm Garmin ball mount. You can snap the PowerBot puck out if you need it to travel or use else where.

Possible Limitations

• Extended use: I have used this every day for my commute (40 minutes each way) with no problems or noticeable heating. I have done one long trip with it and after about 2hrs the phone showed an overheating warning. For the past two hours I had been using Waze in bright sunlight, streaming audio, and in some poor coverage area. I haven’t had the opportunity to try and repeat this since. After this problem I added the hex cutouts for ventilation and added a cut out in the bottom so you can directly connect the phone to USB in the dock. This will eliminate the extra heat from wireless charging and solve any problems you might have on long drives.
• Kevlar back: This is designed and tested around the Ballistic back. If have compared the two in stores and they look identical. But I have seen some case makers listing "for Ballistic back only" or " for Kevlar back only". However I have also read threads stating that many cases that are listed to only fit one actually fit both. So if there is a difference between the two it is very small. If you get this for the Kevlar back please let me know if it fits.
