A custom signet ring is a unique way to make your mark. Not only is is a piece of jewelry to express your personality, it can be used as a wax seal for your mail or other important documents with your exclusive design. Historically, a personal seal was often used as a legally binding signature - if you ever see "L. S." on the signature line of a contract, it actually stands for "place of the seal" in Latin, and the origin of the wedding ring was a man giving his signet ring to his wife so that she had authority to sign contacts in his name to maintain the household. Today, many people use a wax seal or signet ring as a special finishing touch on wedding invitations.
Shapeways has terminated their Co-Creator program that previously allowed me to customize a ring for you and send it directly, however you can still get one through my
Etsy Store.
I can add in initials to one of the other symbols you see here, or create a new symbol to your specifications. Please note that the ring and the impression that it makes are mirror images of each other - letters that look right in an impression come from a signet engraved backwards.
If you are designing your own symbol, for best results please draw within a 3/4" diameter circle, and keep all lines at least 0.020" wide. This is roughly equivalent to drawing with a 0.5 mm mechanical pencil. Check out this post for more information on
Designing Your Own Signet Ring.
Caution: remove signet rings from your hand before using to make an impression. The ring will get hot. Please be careful to avoid burns when using hot wax.
Quality sealing wax is available through
our Etsy store.
Gold and platinum materials are enabled to give you an estimate. Due to the very high cost per cubic centimeter, please send private message for a quote, as changing the ring size may make a big difference.
Custom seals are also available.
