Product Description
This is an HO Scale (1/87) model of a Chicago Transit Authority 4000 series "Baldie" steel rapid transit car built by Cincinnati Car Company between 1914 and 1915 for the CER/CRT. This model specifically represents the 4000 series cars following rebuilding in the mid-1950's by the CTA. The cars had safety glass installed on the end windows, door windows, and upper sash windows, and had their door controls simplified. These examples of modernized "Baldies" retained their center doors, although they were made inoperable. They were also semi-permanently connected to another car, often in consecutive numerical order. The 4000's in this configuration were in revenue service from the early 1950's to 1964 after displacement by the 2000 series cars. Some "Baldies" went into work train service for several years but were largely scrapped.

This listing is for the shell. Also available in my shop is the underbody and trucks for the shell.
