Bases for Semaphore signals: Two cabinet Wide version
Semaphore signals used several different bases. There are exceptions, of course, but these general guidelines would apply.
The plain concrete pyramidal base was used in areas where the railroad had direct mechanical control of the signal.
The single cabinet bases were used where the signal was controlled by wire to relays, but power was available from trackside lines.
The double cabinet bases had not only the relays for operating the signals, but also batteries to operate them when there was no local power available.
These bases should be printed in an opaque material (black preferred) to reduce the chance of light leaks from the LED in the base. You can print them in the Strong & Flexible material, but you will see a better, smoother finish with the Detail material.
To complete your semaphore signal, you will need the appropriate spectacles and blades, as well as the spectacle mount and base unit from TrainThingz, along with a few other parts that should be available at most hobby shops, or online. These signals are designed to be both lit and operated. A complete list of materials and instructions is in the file here (or will be when I am satisfied with the signal and release it for sale!)
