The Kiso was the last (5th) light cruiser of the Kuma class; without any aircraft catapult (compared to Kuma and Tama), retaining the boxy bridge structure (she was the only Kuma-class with an aircraft hangar at the bridge structure, thus higher than the rest of her sisters) and had bulbous anti-rain caps on her two forward stacks.
Early in the war, she spends most of her time (CruDiv 21 with sister-ship Tama) in waters north of Japan and sports Arctic camouflage with contrasting white and dark gray colors.
