Due to this model being above Shapeways' polygon limit, I have to intervene with the order and use the back door method to ensure you receive your puzzle. Once you order this puzzle, send me an email at lbPuzzles@live.co.uk (or if you are a forum member on TwistyPuzzles.com, feel free to send me (username Luke) a personal message) with your order number so I can give the necessary instructions to Shapeways.
The NovaMinx is a vertex turning dodecahedron, with 20 axes altogether. It is the third deepest vertex turning dodecahedron to date, behind the Chopasaurus and the Starminx III. The puzzle uses a three shell mechanism, but also having an additional stability lip near the surface of the puzzle, which I suspect has helped keep the puzzle sturdy. As this puzzle is based on the icosahedral geometry, it jumbles. There are two different ways of jumbling it; one separates a small section from the main body of the puzzle, and the other separates a large section from the main body of the puzzle. By combining the two kinds of jumbling, the puzzle becomes really challenging.
It is recommended that this puzzle is kept at a relatively tight tension to ensure it remains stable and solvable, as the puzzle is quite sensitive to misalignments. However, if you do not intend on solving the puzzle (rather, randomly turning and playing with it), then a slightly looser tension may result in a smoother puzzle. Regardless of either of those, the puzzle will break in and get smoother over time.
When you purchase the puzzle, you receive a set of the plastic parts. You must also purchase twenty M3 screw (4-40 screws should also work), about 10mm long or longer. You will also need to purchase a set of stickers, which can be bought from
Oliver's Sticker Shop, or from
Will Kretschmer (Will's stickers are more expensive, but higher quality and will be easier to stick to the puzzle), or you can get in contact with me for the DXF sticker template.
