This is a ring with a gear on the face. It is primarily directed at the Steampunk audience, but it would also be appropriate as a gift for someone mechanically inclined. This is the male version, with a gear sticking out - you could use it with hot wax to make a seal, though in my personal opinion, the female cavity version should produce a much nicer looking impression.
If desired, I could make a matched pair of the male and female gear rings that would fit together, for something like a Steampunk wedding. Such a thing would require a special order. Please send private message if interested.
To obtain quality sealing wax, please click here. I personally think it would look best in one of the metallic colored waxes, particularly Copper.
Caution: remove signet rings from your hand before using to make an impression. The ring will get hot. Please use caution when working with fire and hot wax to avoid burns.
In some rare instances, Shapeways stainless steel rings have caused a reaction called "tea staining." This is a (not permanent) brown mark on the skin caused by a chemical reaction with the bronze binder. So far only one customer has reported this, and research shows that it depends on skin chemistry - some people always get it, most people never do. Some solutions for people concerned with this are coating the skin contact area with clear nail polish, gold plating, or getting the ring made in silver.
This symbol is also available as a seal.
