Product Description
The Baldwin S-12, first introduced in 1951, represents one of the classic early switch locomotives. Intended for use as a yard switcher, more than 450 were eventually produced and several survive to this day. This N-Scale (1:160) locomotive shell is designed to allow for the conversion of an Bachmann Alco S-4 into a Baldwin S-12. In order for the shell to fit the mechanism cleanly, the rear-facing LED in the cab must be relocated and four small tabs on the corners of the cast fuel tank must be filed flat. While pilot holes for the handrails are designed into the shell, these should be drilled out before final assembly; due to Shapeways policies, the shell does not include handrails.  As with all Frosted Ultra Detail (FUD) models, cleaning, painting and decaling are required to complete the locomotive. Sanding with fine-grit sandpaper is also recommended on the accessible flat surfaces.
