Product Description
The caravel is a type of Rossberan airship that uses both lift rotors (eight in this case) and a large buoyant cell to stay aloft. The advantage to this design is that the buoyant cell is much smaller than that of a zeppelin or blimp, which makes a huge difference in operating cost if helium is used. In addition, caravels with rigid-framed cells take up far less space than conventional zeppelins. Navigation is achieved by tilting the lift rotors. Each bank of rotors can be tilted forward or backward, and steering the ship operates on the same principle as steering a land vehicle with tracks. This particular design was relatively widespread, and until aeroplanes were perfected, the caravel was considered to be the most reliable method of transporting cargo through the air.
