Super Type A Cruiser, Design B-65 (adapted from drawing/data by Hajime Fukuya)

- given hull numbers 795 and 796, they were authorized under the 5th Naval Program of 1942 to counter the Alaska-class cruisers of the US Navy
- none were laid down/project cancelled due to wartime priorities
- some mentioned the ship carried torpedo launchers, but were removed when more details of the Alaska-class were known (including upped armor protection and main gun caliber - from 3x III 310mm to 3x II 360mm)
