Product Description
This is a new 1:144 Wehrmacht '46 German Pz.Kpfw. VII Löwe (Lion) from the new Wargame Armour series of CGD.
In 1941, Krupp started the development of a new heavy tank to succeed the Tiger II (King Tiger). The tank was to be "so strongly armoured that no known enemy anti-tank gun could penetrate". The tank was to be armed with 150mm KwK 44 L/38. It would weight no more than 90 tons and had a top speed of 35 km/hr. Many alternative designs were considered from Feb to May 1942. The Löwe was to use the standard parts of the Tiger II to simplify production.
In July 1942, an order to stop the development of the Löwe was issued in favoured for the development of Stupid Heavy Tank 188 ton Maus by Porsche. The Löwe never reached prototype stage and became another Paper Panzer.
This CGD 1:144 Wehrmacht '46 German Pz.Kpfw. VII Löwe (Lion) is based on Löwe drawing no. W 1663 of 23 April 1942 plus a bit of enhancement to bring it to production stage.
