The EMB-2 is the direct successor to the Etheric Missile Boat
. Its design was started during the waning days of the First Hive War, but it was not completed in time to see action in that conflict. Instead, it became a standard destroyer-class aircraft, often serving as an escort for larger ships. After the Lorentz–Ornstein experiment failed to find any link between the “Ether” and Aerolyth, the name was changed to simply EMB2, with no official pronouncement on what the letters stood for. Its design was clearly influenced by the experiences of the Hive War, and it has a healthy complement of quick-firing Hotchkiss guns. In addition, four 9.2-inch rocket launchers could be used against heavier targets.
