Aérospatiale Alouette II
The Alouette II is a French-build light helicopter that was used by a number of nations in conflicts during the late 20th century in Africa. Operators include Portugal, South Africa, and Rhodesia. It served in several roles, but mainly as a observation vehicle for forward artillery observers and forward air controllers. It was on occasion outfitted with rockets or rocket pods for direct ground attack and close infantry support. This versatile helicopter was also used as a troop insertion vehicle during the early phases of the conflicts in Angola, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, and Rhodesia.
