Product Description

This version of the Universal Camera mount is online still, largely as a historical reference. It has been superseded by the DJI Phantom Universal Camera Mount v2.1

Heavy Universal Camera Mount for cameras of over 390g on a DJI Phantom 2.
Also suited to the DJI Phantom 2 Vision and Vision+.

Purpose:

I have tested my regular mount extensively with a Samsung NX-1100 and have consistently gotten 12 minutes of flight time before needing to land. This means that, at least in my view, the Phantom 2 is capable of carrying a heavier camera, for shorter periods of time. While I do not recommend any beginners do this, and that any trial runs are done with dummy weights rather than expensive cameras underneath, if you absolutely, positively have to get a DSLR above your head, then this may be the solution for you.

Necessary components:

This mount requires additional screws for fitting purposes. Otherwise, it is completely compatible with the DJI Vision camera dampener and may be hot swapped in the field.

  1. 4 M3x15 bolts
  2. 4 M3x8 bolts; same as spares that come with Phantom 2
  3. 4 M3 nuts
  4. 1 1/4-20 tripod bolt
  5. 2 1/4-20 nuts
  6. 8 DJI Vision dampeners

The above can be found at most hardware stores & hobby shops.

Optional components:

Installation instructions:

  1. Horizontal Camera mount
  2. GoPro mount
  3. Tripod Thumbscrew
  4. Flash Hook Camera Trigger
  5. Hinged Camera Mount
    1. Screw the long M3 bolts into the tripod bar.
    2. Place dampener bars onto bolts.
    3. Put tripod bolt through tripod bar.
    4. Fasten tripod bolt with nut.
    5. Put a second nut on tripod bolt.
    6. Attach camera to tripod bolt.
    7. Adjust camera Horizontally and laterally to account for it's centre of gravity.
    8. Ensure bolts on tripod screw are secure.
    9. Fasten M3 bolts with additional nuts.
    10. Fit fuselage mount to Phantom.
    11. Screw the short M3 bolts into the holes on the fuselage mount.
    12. Attach the DJI Vision dampeners to the fuselage mount.
    13. Attach the camera and platform to the dampeners.
  6. You will notice at this point that the dampeners are stretched diagonally. This is to increase rigidity, allowing dampening with heavier loads, using the stock DJI Vision dampeners.

    Important Usage notes:

Heavier cameras will cause vibration in pitch and yaw. This can be compensated for by changes to the gain settings in the DJI Assistant software. The following settings were suitable for the Samsung NX1100, which weighs 390g:

    Pitch; 90%
    Roll; 90%
    Yaw; 130%
    Vertical; 130%
    Attitude Pitch; 150%
    Attitude Roll; 150%

DJI recommends only changing gains by 10% per test flight. Please be cautious with changes to the software and keep in mind that the flight behaviour of your Phantom will change due to the heavier camera and gains adjustments.

If any damage from a crash occurs to the mount, please use common sense. Your camera is worth more than a replacement part.
