This object is an extraction of the form generated from the gyroid formula of Alan Schoen that he devised in 1970. It is a triply periodic minimal surface, that is actually two identical labyrinths of passages, separated by a wall...invented, when he worked for NASA, to be an efficient radiator to cool critcal parts without surrounding them with coolant. It's big brother is to be seen in the NEMO Science Center in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. See more at:
