Running lights for Elco PT boats. Exterior surfaces are to Elco drawings except for slightly thicker wing nut ears. Each light is in 3 pieces, the base, the body, and the fresnel lens. Lenses on the real boats were red port and green starboard colored glass.
Preparation
The first step is to clean all parts thoroughly. Handle very carefully as the plastic is brittle. Please see the guide and links here:
http://www.pt103.com/3D_Printed_PT_Boat_Parts.html. For best painting results be sure to follow cleaning with a UV cure from a lamp with the correct output, or the sun.
Assembly
Fit the body to the base. The plug on the body is slightly tapered, carefully sand the outboard edges in the socket in the base until it fits. Note that the lenses should be installed with the 3 prismatic ribs upper and 4 ribs lower. The lenses are also different port and starboard. The vertical ends have slightly different angles where they meet the base and body. Fit the lens to the body, sanding the top and bottom of the lens until it slides in easily. Check that the body still fits fully in the base with the lens in place, sand vertical edges of lens if needed.
Location, Elco 80' Boats
Measurements are given in full scale and are taken from Elco drawings. See also the image above.
The forward edge of the light bases are 7" aft of the chart house side windows aft edge. Due to model variations, check that they appear correct in relation to the bridge and turret.
The horizontal center of the lights are 33" above the deck, measured from where the forward part of the turret meets the chart house. Due to model variations, check that they appear correct in relation to the top of the chart house.
