This is one variation in my series of earrings based on Platonic solids wireframes. This design features wires that twine around each other for a fluid, organic feel. The shapes are the same as found in my
metal Platonic Progression earrings, but because this model includes rings that connect the shapes (as well as a tetrahedron nestled inside the largest one), it can only be printed in materials that allow interlocking models, the 'strong and flexible' and 'frosted detail' plastics. The model contains two earrings, so when you place an order for this model you get a pair.
Note, Shapeways has just changed their pricing model for plastic parts, and I have updated these earrings to minimize their cost under the new model. The earring design is still the same as what you see in the photos, I've just rearranged the pieces in the model so that they take up less space in the 3D printer. The two earrings are also connected by a loop now; just cut the loop with scissors (carefully) or fingernail clippers to separate them. This update is why you might see the earrings labeled 'first to try' -- but they're still the same design!
All that needs to be added to the printed parts are earwires or other type of hangers, but you can also replace the printed connecting rings with metal jumprings other components for a little added shine or 'bling'. I recommend also sealing the printed dyed nylon parts to protect the color. I offer such 'finished' and modified earrings in my
Etsy shop, although I generally don't have them in the full variety of colors that Shapeways offers.
