Food Diagram

According to G. I. Gurdjieff and the Fourth Way, the human organism can assimilate 3 foods: edible ordinary food, air, and sense impressions. They are then transformed by the organism into finer substances. (See P. D. Ouspenky's "In Search of the Miraculous" for a description of the food diagram.) This structure was further clarified by Russell A. Smith in his book, "Gurdjieff: Cosmic Secrets", pgs.75, 85. This model is a 3D depiction of that diagram, showing the possible ascending octaves of food (yellow), air (cyan), and impressions (magenta).  The supporting base, in black, allows the model to stand upright, so that the higher notes are those of higher frequency (shown in logarithmic scale, so that the octaves are equal in height), and notes of equal frequency are the same distance above the base. The diatonic notes of each octave are indicated as follows: Do-Sphere, Re-Tetrahedron, Mi-Cube, Fa-Octahedron, So-Dodecahedron, La-Cuboctahedron, Ti-Icosahedron. The 'descending' Do of one octave starts at the note La or Fa of another octave. La and Fa notes on adjacent octaves intersect. Note that the 'ascending Do' of the air octave (cyan) is at the same frequency as the note Mi of the food octave ((yellow), and that the 'ascending Do' of the impressions octave (magenta) starts at the same frequency as the note So of the food octave. This is in general true of the 'shock octaves' needed for ascending octaves (see p. 75 of Cosmic Secrets).
