The Bwa or Bwaba (plural), are an ethnic group indigenous to central Burkina Faso and Mali. Their population is approximately 300,000. They are known for their masks, made from leaves or wood. Bwa African masks are often used in agricultural ceremonies to celebrate farming and bless the crops. This particular mask of the Bwa signifies the Sun, one of the important components to yielding a healthy crop.
