+ Welcome

Hello everyone!

The last month has once again been an extremely busy and exciting one. A bunch of us went to SIGGRAPH and that was simply overwhelming. The response we got from modelers was just great. They loved to look, touch and feel GasGuy, Stickman, Moebius Ants and all the other great member models we took along with us. Our stand was busy for the whole of SIGGRAPH and I don't think that any of us have ever spoken to so many people in such a short timespan.

When we got back we had a lot of catching up to do and hardly got the time. We got on Digg twice in one week and this and all the other media attention brought in fresh waves of members. We were also improving the support and tutorial parts of the site with things such as our first video tutorial. In the midst of this we had to do the really important launch of our Creator.

The Creator gives anyone the opportunity to change and play with a shape and turn it into a 3D printed model.

Enjoy,

Joris

We have a new contest for for you guys! This one is for the Dutch Design Week, the Netherlands' most prestigious design event. You can submit designs until the 21st of September. The winner gets to be displayed at the Dutch Design Week, afterward we will send the printed model to you and give you $250 in free 3D Printing. Check out the entries submitted thus far. Or read the blog post.

+ Siggraph design challenge winner!

The winner of the SIGGRAPH Design Challenge was Jonathan Gold with his wonderful design, “The Birth of an Idea.”

You can read the post as well as see a picture of it here. The jury admired his take on the “the most inspiring 3D object you can make”, a lot of people liked the model at SIGGRAPH too and to cap it all off you guys voted this the best model!

+ Creator creations

tweedelightpoem.jpg

A few weeks ago we launched our Creator. This lets anyone design a 3D printed object in two minutes, even if they do not have any 3D modeling experience. The first thing you can make with the Creator is the LightPoem. With a LightPoem the words that you type in become the actual object. We've had sweet LightPoems, idealistic LightPoems, romantic ones, as well as LightPoems to celebrate occasions.

+ Repair your robot with Shapeways

We're still amazed with all the things that people do with Shapeways. Here's a great interview with Andre, who wanted to repair an old robot arm and was able to do it with Shapeways.

+ Awesome new models

incaras.jpg We have some really fun, inspiring and just generally awesome new models on site. This Chinese sphere is great! Bferris uploaded what seems to be a base plate for a pinewood derby car. Coppersink uploaded his Chaos Mohawk Figthbot.

For me this model is quite humbling. It is ten year old Incaras' character, she made it using 3ds Max. I think it is wonderful.
