Hi,
It has been an exciting couple of weeks at Shapeways with a glimpse at some Silver Samples, the successful Open Source Jewelry project by Improbablecog setting his designs free with the help of Kickstarter. We have received a slew of high quality entries in our latest contest that will be on show in our stall D27 at 100% Design in London, and we found a workaround to exceed the 500,000 polygon limit for your complex designs.
Cheers,
Duann Scott

+ Silver Samples
|
 |
Whenever we ask the Shapeways community what materials they would like to see supported Silver is always on top of the list.
We listened to your requests and have been investigating ways to make it happen, so we are very excited to share the some images of our first silver samples to get your response on the quality of the finishes that might be possible.
Shapeways will be launching a a silver promotion in the coming weeks so you can start designing for silver now!

+ Setting Design Free!

Improbablecog whose Kickstarter project successfully raised funding allowing him to release his designs under a creative commons license.
This is a great example of a Shapeways user experimenting with the freedom opened up by a business model with no risk of inventory.

+ 500,000 Polygons +
|
 |
Are you one of those modelers that keep bumping against the file size threshold that can be uploaded to Shapeways? We received a number of requests for the possibility of higher polygons so we found a workaround so that your models can now exceed the 500,000 polygon limit.
It is currently a manual process but if we get enough demand we will try and automate the procedure to make it easier for everyone, and once the resolution of the models are increased, Shapeways can then work on increasing the resolution of the 3D printing processes to make the most of the high polygon models.
