A couple awesome new materials, ICFF, Maker Faire, and a new team member! + Unleashing 3D Printed Ceramics and Polished White, Strong & Flexible
This month, we've been opening up new materials to the community at record speed. Most recently, we launched 3D printed ceramics (below on the left). Our first food safe material, ceramics is opening up a whole ton of new opportunities in the home decor area of things. I'm really thrilled to see the community's ceramics designs roll in.
Earlier in the month, we kicked things off with our new White Strong Flexible Polished (pictured below on the right), a new option to have your WSF designs run through a tumbler, and come out silky smooth. WSF is still our most affordable material, and since the polishing adds just a small additional charge, it's exciting for many community members to have this material be a good option for finished products.

+ Hitting the Road: ICFF and Maker Faire
As the team can tell you, this has been a very busy month. We got things started on May 14th with our first time at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF). The show has become North America's largest interior design tradeshow, and it was exciting to show off community member's 3D printed work alongside world-renown traditional designers. We couldn't have done it without Nervous System, Chris Hardy, and John Briscella who were kind enough to fix up our booth, showcase their work, and make us all look good.

Days after ICFF, we were on a plane to Maker Faire in the Bay Area, where we wowed many of the 100,000(!!!) makers in attendance. I loved dispelling the statement "You can't do THAT with 3D printing!" The team also got to connect with some local Shapers for the first time, all of whom blew me away with their industrial design-oriented Shapeways projects. A really big "thank you" to Igor Knezevic and Sergey Menshikov for jumping in to help man the Shapeways booth. You guys helped make this a success.

+ A New Addition to the Shapeways Team!
Just yesterday, we welcomed Steven Read on board at Shapeways. Steven, (who has not yet made this same face around the New York office...) is joining our Product Team as a designated front end developer. Here’s what he had to say about joining Shapeways:
I have a background in biology, software, and art and am very excited to be part of the Shapeways team. I started doing web development in the mid 1990's and since moving to New York City a year ago I have worked on websites with the New York Public Library and NBC. In my spare time I love to make and tinker with electronics, gadgets, or generative software visuals and often enjoy sharing these creations with others. Besides working with the fantastic team here on enhancing the website tools and user experience, I am also anxious to learn and try my hand at producing 3-D shapes in various ways!
Welcome Steven! We’re all excited to have you. :)
