Hi ,
How have you been lately? Hope you’re ready for a ton of updates! We recently produced an amazing design from Theo Jansen, called Strandbeest, introduced a totally new concept to create without using 3D software, and more on ICFF. Hope you enjoy the read!

+ Introducing: Image Popper
Today, we are excited to introduce the Image Popper to our family of Creators. How does it work? Upload a black and white JPG and watch it get transformed into a 3D object - It's that easy! If you have Chrome, you can even draw your own picture right in the browser! We hope this enables you to design and create without the need of 3D software. See below a really nice silver pendant Nancy made in a few minutes! So, what will you make today?

+ New and Improved: My Shapeways and a Refreshed Creator Page
Shapeways is growing, and we're always thinking about ways to make our website easier to use, and more accessible. Today we've added two updates to make life as a Shapie simpler -- a newly reworked Creator page, and the addition of My Shapeways:
Over time, we’ve acquired quite a number of creators and things got a little bit crowded. Our redesigned Creator page cleans things up some, and presents you with making options at different levels of difficulty.
My Shapeways, which is replacing “My Designs", puts all of your info as a community member in one place, divided up nicely between tabs. This should make it much easier to create and manage your shop, track your Shapeways orders, or even just to change profile details.
How are you liking these changes? Do they make things easier or harder? Let me know here!

+ Welcoming the Strandbeest
Theo Jansen is a Dutch kinetic artist, and the father of the Strandbeests ('beach creatures'), the astonishing multi-legged creatures designed to walk along the beach, powered by the wind. Check out this video to see one in action. After some recent strandbeest evolution, several small versions are available in his shop. Next to being an inspiring example of Theo’s work, these strandbeests are also an example of what 3D printing is capable of. Oh, and did I mention that these little creatures walk straight from the printer, no assembly required?

We had an amazing array of high calibre entries for the 2011 ICFF contest and will be announcing the winner on May 2nd... While we keep you in anticipation for just a little longer, and make preparations to show off 3D printed works from the winner, Nervous System, Aminimal, and Chris Hardy, why not check out the gallery of entries? With over 100 incredible pieces like the computational vase (shown below), you may even want to invest in your own piece of innovative 3D printed home decor.

And keep your eyes peeled for an announcement on May 2nd! |
