Newsletter 07-02-2011:

Hi Shapie,

Hope all is great with you. I’ve got some very cool updates for you this week; more additions to the Shapeways team, and news of the incredible 17x17x17 cube by Oskar van Deventer. I also caught up with Shapeways community members Nervous System and GDG Studios at the New York International Gift Fair.

+ A new Community Manager

I’m very excited to have just joined the team as Shapeways new Community Manager! You can read my thoughts about coming on board here and since I’m still getting to know everyone, why not shoot me an email? Bart Veldhuizen, who’s done a wonderful job as the Community Manager up until now, will be staying on at Shapeways and helping us out with some exciting developments on the tech side of things.

+ Maker Faire and SxSW Interactive

This coming March, you’ll be able to catch up with three different Shapeways team members stationed at two of the world’s coolest maker/techie gatherings, at the same time! Bart is headed to Maker Faire in New Castle to catch up with UK makers (on March 12th & 13th), and Peter and I are headed to SxSWi in Austin, Texas (from March 11th - 15th). I’m very excited to attend SxSWi again, and to have the chance to evangelize Shapeways at this huge geek festival. From both continents, we’ll be looking to connect up with as many Shapies as possible. Drop us a line and come grab a beer!

+ 17x17x17

17x17x17

All of us at Shapeways have been very excited to see news of Oskar van Deventer's 17x17x17 twisty puzzle take off, with mentions in TechCrunch, Gizmodo, Make Magazine, Fast Co. Design, and more. Big congrats to Oskar!

The cube will be officially unveiled at an invite only event on Feb. 12th at the New York Puzzle Party Symposium. If you want to meet Oskar and see his work, Shapeways is excited to be hosting a meetup at our New York headquarters on Tues. Feb 15th at 5:30pm. RSVP and find more details here.

If you're a member of our community making something amazing using our platform, and would like to try and make a big public splash like Oskar did, send us an email. Your success is our success, and we'd love to see if we can help.

+ Nervous System and GDG Studios at NYIGF

Nervous1

Last Tuesday I stopped by the NY International Gift Fair (NYIGF) to say hi to our friends Jessica and Jesse from Nervous System, and check out their latest work. Their most recent stuff involves lots of intricate, organic-looking pieces in SF, keeping up with their beautiful-yet-sensible approach.

I was excited to find that NYIGF was home to one other 3D printing enthusiast and active community member; GDG Studios is a jewelry and home decor shop that creates both handmade and digitally fabricated goods. More visuals can be found here
