I can see the resemblance in the 4 fin configuration, although this is actually based on the real-world F104 Starfighter and the Republic XF103 Thunderwarrior (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_XF-103) which in this case the cancelation was just cover for the NASC to build a NERV style fighter in my 1960's Torch War setting.
