Product Description
Aérospatiale Alouette III The Alouette III is a French-build light utility helicopter that was used and extensively converted by a number of nations during the late 20th century conflicts in Africa. Operators include France, Portugal, South Africa, and Rhodesia. The Alouette III had a troop carrying capacity of 5 which the Portuguese used to its full extend, the Rhodesians tended to transport so called “Sticks” of 4 men. When used by the Portuguese Air Force flights of 5 Alouette III transport helicopters were used (code name canibal, plural canibais, which means cannibal). The five canibais would insert 25 combatants while being covered by an Alouette III gunship equipped with a 20 mm cannon (also available from SpectreVisuals, code name Lobo Mau, meaning Big Bad Wolf). After troop insertion the canibais would leave the combat zone, while the Lobo Mau would stay on station and provide direct fire support to the ground troops. After combat the canibais would return and evacuate the wounded and then the remaining troops.
