About this Product

A small shade for generic tea lights. Utilising a floral pattern simmilar to that from our easter egg series, this oriental shade will make a wonderfull cosy addition to any dining table. The semi transparent properties of the shapeways plastic material will give a wonderfull gentle glow in dim to low lighting. Although a tea light doesnt produce a large enough flame to melt or burn the plastic, we have changed the overall shape to increase the distance and further reduce any risk. That said, we still advise you to handle the flame with care, and ensure that everything is placed on a non flammable surface(a ceramic plate will be enough) just to be safe.

Very pretty. Can't wait to pop a tealight in there in the evening. I'm hoping to have some beautiful shadows and light coming from it.

We just received the printed version of the shade. We are proud to anounce that all is well, the shade does not heat up from the flame, and the bottom rim safely keeps it away from the plastic, so nothing else except for the candle goes up in flames. Again thanks for your support everyone, we hope you like it:)

@bartv Thanks for comment. The size is based on other small shades that we own, which are also made of plastic, and paper. With tea lights the sides are completely safe from heating, because all the heat goes upwards in a narrow cone. We also made a small test with a glass of roughly the same shape and size, to see how much certain parts would heat up, and it could be held with bare hands by the topmost part wich had the most severe exposure, even after several minutes. So assuming the melting temperature of your plastic material is 80C it should be safe. However just to be safe we are uploading an updated model, with a wider frame, especially at the top to minimise the risk. We will also be making a few live tests with a printed model just to be sure. Again thanks for pointing this out.

It looks great, but I'm a little worried about safety as most of our materials are flammable?
